How it works

From a rider’s frustration to a voice your community can see.

TransitCrafter is an independent, anonymous map where people point at what is wrong with transit, back each other, and turn scattered complaints into something located, counted and hard to ignore.

Simple steps

It takes about thirty seconds on a phone, and nothing is decided by one loud person.

  1. Step 1: Someone spots it

Drop a pin for a problem, a missing stop or a shelter. Sketch a new route. Or suggest a change to a route that already exists.

  2. Step 2: The community backs it

Anyone can support an idea with one tap and say how often they would ride. One person counts once, however many times they tap.

  3. Step 3: Rules keep it honest

Duplicates are steered to the original, and spam and personal details are stopped. Support is checked so every person counts once, and community reports bring in a person.

  4. Step 4: The signal gets seen

Ideas are labelled Early, Growing or Strong. Explore demand on the heatmap, share what matters to you, and keep backing ideas as they grow.

Make your voice count

Every way of taking part tells planners something different. Use whichever fits, and come back whenever something changes: the more people join in, the clearer the picture gets.

Support

How many people want this?

One tap, counted once per person however many times you tap. It stays and adds up from the day the idea was added. It sets the Early, Growing and Strong labels.

  • What you do: tap Support once.
  • Sort: Most supported

Trend

Do people still need this right now?

After you support an idea, you can confirm “Still relevant today” once a day. Trend compares the last 7 days with the week before, so it can rise, cool down or go quiet.

  • What you do: confirm once a day while you still need it.
  • Sort: Trending

A quick example

A shelter with 120 supporters that nobody has confirmed for weeks is well supported but quiet. A new stop with 6 supporters, confirmed every day by 5 of them, is small but rising. Both are real, and each sort shows you a different one first.

Daily confirmations also show interest that lasts over several days, which is part of how an idea earns Growing and Strong. Many confirmations at once from the same network count once.

Spotted something we missed? Add an idea or report a problem, then share it with a friend. Ideas that people keep coming back to rise first.

What the trend words mean

New
Just added. It is too early to see a pattern.
Rising
More people are confirming this, on more days.
Steady
People keep confirming this at a steady pace.
Cooling
Fewer people have confirmed this lately.
Quiet
No one has confirmed this in the last 7 days.
Surge
Many confirmations arrived at once. Until people return on other days, each network counts once.

The method, in the open

Everything below is read live from the database every time you open this page.

Live numbers

We are just getting started

Live numbers appear here once enough people have taken part for them to mean something. Until then, this is exactly what we will publish and how each number is counted.

What we will publish

  • Ideas from real residents

    Demo examples are not counted.

  • Different people who backed an idea

Counted once each, however many times they voted.

  • Of them verified accounts

The email is never shown or shared.

  • Said how often they would ride

A stronger signal than a simple like.

  • Reports from residents

Anyone can report an idea that looks wrong.

How support is counted

One person, one vote on an idea. A vote counts for what the device behind it has done, not for where the person is, so a crowd of fake devices cannot outweigh real regulars.

Where you are does not matter. You know your stops and routes from using them every day, so you never need to be at the place to be counted. Sharing your location is optional and does not change your weight.

What raises your weight is what you do: coming back on different days and sharing ideas or photos that others go on to back.

Confirming an email is optional and never needed to vote. It gives your support extra confidence, because one inbox means one person. We use it once to send a code and keep only a one-way hash, so we cannot email you later or share it.

Verify your email

Photos count too: an approved photo taken at the place adds a little to the score, but only once a few people already back the idea, and never more than a few extra votes.

When does an idea become strong?

  1. Early signal

    Everything new starts here.

  2. Growing support

25 different people, spread over at least 3 days.

  3. Strong support

100 different people over 14 days, at least 10 of them regulars who came back on several days, with no open reports.

These starting values are a first guess. We will tune them in the open once there is real data, and say so here when we do.

What we promise

  • We show our numbers

Everything in the top section is counted live from the database. Nothing is rounded up.

  • Rules, not opinions

The same automatic rules apply to every idea. A person only steps in when a report or a flag asks for it.

  • No name needed

We never ask for your name or a password. Sign in with just an email code and your reports count more and you keep your history. Your email is never shown.

What we cannot promise

  • That Winnipeg Transit will build your idea. We are independent and not an official channel.
  • That votes equal a mandate. A strong idea shows real community demand, not an official decision.
  • That the route map is always up to date. It comes from the City's published schedule data, so a very recent service change may not show yet.
  • That no one will ever try to game it. We make it hard and we say so when we catch it.
  • More than 3 new ideas or 30 votes per person per day. That limit protects everyone.

Open for everyone to explore

See where people are asking for change on the demand map. Residents, community groups, researchers and anyone who cares about the city can explore the trusted ideas. Demo data is never included.
